Every voice carries its own colour, character and possibility.
At Tanpura Music School, vocal training begins with listening—to the teacher, to music and gradually to your own voice. Our vocal training in Berlin offers children and adults a warm, structured space to explore breath, pitch, resonance and musical expression at a comfortable pace.
No previous training is required. All that is needed is curiosity, patience and a love for music.
Discover and Develop Your Natural Voice
Vocal training is not about forcing every voice into the same sound. It is a gradual process of understanding how your individual voice works and learning to use it with greater ease, clarity and expression.
Rather than focusing only on learning songs, students explore the foundations that support meaningful singing. These include breathing, pitch, rhythm, resonance, diction and attentive listening.
Each exercise is introduced with care and then connected to musical practice. This helps students understand not only what to sing, but also how to approach the voice with awareness and confidence.
What You Will Explore in Vocal Training
The learning journey is shaped around each student. Beginners start with simple foundations, while students with previous experience can refine particular areas of their technique.
Breathing and Voice Production
Students explore how posture, breathing and a steady flow of air support the singing voice.
Simple breathing exercises help develop greater stability, ease and awareness while singing longer notes and musical phrases.
Gentle Vocal Warm-Ups
A thoughtful warm-up prepares the voice and mind for singing.
Students learn simple exercises that encourage vocal coordination, flexibility and focused practice without placing unnecessary pressure on the voice.
Pitch, Swara and Listening
Through scale practice, listening exercises and swara recognition, students gradually develop a clearer sense of pitch.
The aim is not only to sing the correct note, but also to listen carefully and understand the relationship between notes.
Resonance and Tone
Every voice has its own natural tone.
Students explore resonance and sound placement to discover a clearer and more balanced voice. The focus remains on awareness and gradual development rather than creating a forced or artificial sound.
Vocal Range and Flexibility
Guided exercises help students explore different areas of their comfortable vocal range.
As the voice becomes more flexible, students may also be introduced to musical ornaments such as meend, murki and briga, depending on their level and chosen musical path.
Rhythm and Taal
Melody becomes more expressive when it moves naturally with rhythm.
Students develop rhythmic awareness through listening, clapping, counting and singing within accessible taal patterns. This creates a stronger connection between melody, timing and musical flow.
Diction and Pronunciation
Clear pronunciation allows the meaning and emotion of a song to reach the listener.
Students receive guidance with phrasing and diction in the language of the music they are learning, including Bengali, Hindi, Sanskrit or other relevant repertoire.
Voice Modulation and Expression
Singing is more than producing the right notes. It is also a way of communicating emotion, meaning and musical character.
Students explore phrasing, dynamics and voice modulation while learning to express a song in a way that remains natural to them.
Personal Practice Guidance
Students receive exercises and practice suggestions suited to their current level.
Regular feedback helps them recognise progress, understand areas that need patience and build a practice routine that feels manageable.
A Learning Path Shaped Around You
Every student arrives with a different voice, background and reason for learning music.
Some wish to sing with greater confidence. Others want to reconnect with Indian or Bengali culture, strengthen their classical foundation or simply experience the quiet joy of singing.
Lessons are therefore adapted rather than rushed through a fixed programme. The teacher listens to the student’s goals and introduces exercises, scales and musical material at an appropriate pace.
This personalised approach allows technical learning and musical expression to grow together.
